WHAT IS LEVOTHROID?

If your own thyroid glands do not produce necessary thyroid to regulate energy, metabolism and proper functioning of the body; if you have inflated thyroid or Goiter; if the production of thyroid is low due to radiation treatment, medical treatment, brain hypothalamus, pituitary gland diseases; Levothroid is used to treat hormone deficiency in the body. It’s necessary to have right level of thyroid hormone in blood to function the system properly. Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine is a substitute for a hormone that thyroid glands produce. Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine is given when the thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone on its own.

HOW SHOULD I TAKE LEVOTHROID?

Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine is oral medication can be taken with full glass of water, about an hour before breakfast. Levothroid absorbs well on an empty stomach.

If Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine is prescribed for children and if they can’t swallow whole tablets, Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine tablets can be crushed and mix it into 2 table spoons of water and can be given to children.

Patients are supposed to use Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine regularly at the same time and same dose prescribed by your Doctor and never stop the treatment without consulting your Doctor.

Generally Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine takes up to 4-6 weeks to get the effect and see the improvements. If the condition worsens, let your Doctor know. 

PRECAUTIONS BEFORE USING LEVOTHROID:

Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine has profound effects on the body.  You have to let your Doctor know about your Medical history, especially heart problem, clotting, diabetes, disorders of the adrenal, pituitary glands, your allergies, and prescription or over the counter medication you are taking.

• If you are an older person, you should receive low doses and that too under supervision.

• Recent clinical research shows that after consulting Doctor, this drug may be used during pregnancy or to the mothers who are breast-feeding.
  
• Tell your doctor or dentist you are taking Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine before you have surgery of any kind.
  
• Caution is advised when using this drug in children because overuse may reduce the childs future adult height. Consult your doctor for details.
  
• Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug.
  
• Do not switch to another brand of Levothroid without consulting your doctor.
  
• Higher doses to infants or children may hamper the growth.
  
• Treatment of Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine, sometimes, may cause seizures at the beginning, although this is rare. You may also notice some hair loss at first, but this is temporary.
  
• Consult your doctor for details. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug.
  
• Current information shows that this drug may be used during pregnancy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant because your dose will have to be adjusted.
  
• Small amounts of this drug pass into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine can’t be used for weight control.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF LEVOTHROID?

Side effects from Levothroid, if not overdosed, are generally rare. Levothroid treatment may cause some hair loss, but this effect is usually temporary. You may have an allergic reaction such as

Overdosed to children leads to overstimulation of the thyroid gland.

Above-mentioned side effects are usually temporary as your body adjusts to this medication, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. 

WHAT HAPPENS IF I MISS OR OVER DOSE LEVOTHROID?

Doses of Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine depend on the status of your thyroid glands levels and the other medical conditions. If the dose of Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine is missed, should be taken as soon as you remember. If it’s a time for next one, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Never double dose the medication.

An overdose of Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine may cause overstimulation. Confusion and disorientation are also possible, and there have been reports of stroke, shock, coma, and death. If you suspect a massive overdose, seek emergency medical attention immediately. Levothyroxine sodium should be reduced in dose or temporarily discontinued if signs or symptoms of over dosage occur. 

HOW TO STORE LEVOTHROID ?

Store at room temperature. Keep Levothroid Generic Levothyroxine away from heat, moisture, children, and pets. 

INTERACTION OF LEVOTHROID WITH OTHER MEDICINES:

Synthroid can interact with a wide variety of medications. Its advisable to check with your doctor before taking any other drug, but you should be especially wary of Amiodarone, hormones medicines, Hormone inhibitors Antacids, anti-gas medications, Antidepressants, Blood pressure drugs, Blood-thinning drugs, sedatives, Diabetes drugs, oral contraceptives, Growth hormones, Iron supplements, anti-inflammatory drugs, Parkinsons drugs, thyroid inhibitor, Seizure medications, Steroids, Steroids, cancer drugs, cholesterol-lowering drugs, immune-system drugs, tranquilizers, tuberculosis drugs, high-fiber diet, soy-containing supplements, calcium supplements, and walnuts.

Your Doctor may already be aware of any possible drug interactions and may be monitoring you for it. Do not start, stop or change the dosage of any medicine before checking with your Doctor.
